Located on the North side of the island in the North Kohala District 36 miles north of Kona, Waimea is one of the largest communities on the island with many services available.It is a great community with cowboy character.

The real estate market in Waimea (Kamuela) is less expensive than the majority of the state but a higher price range for the rest of the island.The cost of living is less affordable than most areas on the island.The area is in Lava Hazard Zone 8,which is almost free of any hazard from the volcanoes.The area is very popular because of the majestic setting cooler temperatures and its proximity to so many good beaches. |

Another issue that is unique to this area is the town is divided in to wet-side and dry-side.The properties to the west end of the town are much dryer than the properties to the east.The lay of the land creates a big difference in rainfall in a small space.
Some popular local points of interest include: Waipio Valley, Old Mamalahoa Highway, and Kalopa Native Forrest State Park, Spencer Beach, Mauna Kea Beach, Hapuna Beach, Crystal Cove, Pu'ukohola Heiau, and Mau'umae Beach.
