Located on the East side of the island in the Puna District less than 15 miles south of Hilo, Mountain view and Kurtistown are good communities with many limited services available.There are some shops, gas stations, and a small grocery store.The landscape is a gradual slope and the rainfall is good for flower farms and fruit farms that can be seen all around Puna.

The air quality in Mountain View and Kurtistown can be voggy (volcano fog) if the wind blows to the north rather than normally blowing west.When the wind does blow the vog toward these towns, the smoke will blanket the area and great reduce visibility.However this is not usually the case. |

The area does not provide any interest to tourists and they pass though the area.The subdivisions that surround these communities are nice but some of the neighborhoods may not be as nice as others.Road quality conditions in these subdivisions are varied.This area is very close to the Pu'u O'o Vent, which is an active vent on Kilauea volcano.Lava does flow from this vent south towards the sea and away from these towns. |
The real estate market in Mountain View and Kurtistown is less expensive compared to the rest of the island.The cost of living is very affordable.The area is very popular because of the cooler temperatures, cost, and its proximity to Hilo.The availability of property is good.The prices are low and there is plenty to buy.The prices have climbed great deal in the past few years.
