Located on the Northeast side of
the island on the Hamakua Coast, Pepeekeo is a small village little services
just north of Hilo. It is a good
community with a special character.
Pepeekeo and the Hamakua Coast’s air quality is relatively clear of
vog (volcano fog).
The real estate market in
Pepeekeo is less expensive than the majority of the state but more mid-range
pricing for the rest of the island.
The cost of living is affordable and the area is in Lava Hazard Zone
8, which is almost free of any hazard from the volcanoes. The area is very popular because of
safety, air quality and the views.
Some of the properties in this area have ocean views. The availability of property in
this area is scarce because those who own these properties do not wish to
sell them. It makes the properties
that do come on the market sell fast.
This area is an easy spot to
commute to and from Hilo. Some
popular local points of interest include: Akaka
Falls, Umauma
Falls, Kolekole
Beach Park, and Waikaumalo
Park.
