Located on the South side of the island in the Kau District, Naalehu and Pahala are good communities with limited services available. There are some shops, gas stations, and small grocery stores. Naalehu has a few cafes, hardware store and other small businesses. Pahala does have a hospital as well. Life in this area is slow and peaceful. This area could be one of the best retirement value considerations the Big Island can offer.
The real estate market in Pahala Naalehu South Point is less expensive compared to the rest of the island. The cost of living is very affordable. The area is very popular because of the cooler temperatures, cost, and peaceful living. The availability of property is good. The prices are low and there is plenty to buy. The rainfall is average for the island and much of the land is used for cattle, orchards, or old sugar cane land. The air quality in Naalehu and Pahala can be voggy (volcano fog) if the wind blows to the southwest but the winds are usually strong and carry the wind over or around the area.
