Kau District Located on the Southwest side of the island in the Kau District, Ocean View is a good community with a view that lives up to its name. Much of this property has a 180 degree ocean views possible. There are not many trees to block the view and the horizon seems to reach toward the sky. Sunsets are simply breathtaking.
Ocean View limited services available. There are some shops, gas stations, and grocery store in the area. Nearby, Naalehu has a few cafes, hardware store and other small businesses. This area could be one of the best retirement value considerations the Big Island can offer. The real estate market in Ocean View is one of the most active in the country and Ocean View Estates is one of the largest subdivisions in the U.S. Housing is less expensive compared to the rest of the island. The cost of living is very affordable. The area is very popular because of the cooler temperatures, cost, and peaceful living. The availability of property is good. The prices are low and there is plenty to buy. The rainfall is below average for the island and much of the land open and rocky. The air quality in Ocean View can be voggy (volcano fog) if the wind blows to the southwest but the winds are usually strong and carry the wind over or around the area. This area rests along the south slope of Mauna Loa. Mauna Loa is the second highest mountain on the island and is not an active volcano at this time. There have been eruptions in the last century on Mauna Loa but Hawaiian volcanoes characteristically erupt often and relatively are small eruptions compared to most volcanoes in the Pacific rim. Areas of interest include: Punaluu Beach, South Point, Green Sand Beach, and Volcano National Park. |
