Captain Cook, Hawaii

Honaunau, Hawaii

Kealakekua, Hawaii

Located on the west side of the island in the South Kona District overlooking the Royal Coast, Captain Cook is one of the most breath taking communities on the island with some services available.  It is a moist climate that lends itself to some of the best coffee growing conditions in the world.  Beautiful views of sunsets over turquoise and blue ocean.

The air quality in Captain Cook is voggy (volcano fog) most of the year.  Some people may not notice the vog unless it is particularly think.  This area is known as a coffee farm Mecca with a history unique to the island.  It is the site of the battle that ended the life of Captain Cook, which is remembered with a monument that over looks the fish sanctuary in Kealakekua Bay.  The villages are also close to the Place of Refuge (Pu`uhonua o Honaunau).

Place of Refuge Beach

Place of Refuge Sacred Grounds

The real estate market in Captain Cook, Kealakekua, and Honaunau is expensive compared to the rest of the island.  The cost of living is less affordable than most areas on the island.  The area is in Lava Hazard Zone 3, which is relatively free of any hazard from the volcanoes

The area is very popular because of the drop dead gorgeous setting and its proximity to so many good beaches, world class, big game sport fishing, and snorkeling.  The availability of property in this area is pretty good considering the number of properties in the area.  There are usually retreats, bed and breakfast homes, and coffee farms ready to buy.

Some popular local points of interest include:  White Sands (Magic Sands / Disappearing Sands) Beach, Napoopoo, Kealakekua Bay, Place of Refuge (Pu`uhonua o Honaunau), Ho’okena Beach, Kainaliu, and numerous coffee farms.
